Examples of Custom Solution Product Applications: Comprehensive Communication System
The benefits of dialing into any traffic, security or PLC device for programming and diagnostic purposes are significant. Communicating with a PLC via modem will often eliminate the need to travel to the site and, most importantly, get the system back into operation more quickly. If, for instance, there is more than one PLC to manage as well as PLCs from a variety of manufacturers, and if there are multiple sites with PLCs and the installation of a phone line is expensive or impossible, the Data-Linc Group CCS9000 Comprehensive Communications System can meet the need. Read FAQs for CCS9000 and the System Description and Schematics.
Power System
Border States Electric in Fargo, North Dakota, has integrated Data-Linc Group's CCS9000 system with Cooper Power Systems Form 5 Controls to communicate with a power substation. The system uses a Data-Linc CCS4100/DU (see specs for DLM4100) dial-up Master to connect over a standard phone line to a CCS9000 Dial-up 4-port switch. A Data-Linc Group CCS4100/DU leased-line Master is connected to the "5th port" on the CCS9000 4-port switch and connects to its 4-port switch via twisted pair. The combination of these components gives the user eight ports available to be selected over a single phone line. Each port can be configured to talk at different baud rates and the system can also be expanded by adding more Masters to remote 4-port switches using the 5th port on the remote switches. The whole system is controlled via Data-Linc's CONNECTTM software (Traffic ConnectionsTM is the version specifically for Traffic Management and Control). From CONNECT, the user can select the remote location (if more than one is available) and then the port. The software does the rest. Once CONNECT establishes the connection, it then releases the port and, if selected, "auto" starts the application needed to communicate with the device that is connected to the selected port. Once the communication session is completed, CONNECT is used to either select another port with which to communicate or to close the connection.
Traffic Control
The Data-Linc Group CCS9000 system saves the City of Bellevue, located east of Seattle, Washington, valuable time and money. At the Bellevue Department of Transportation, they can perform modifications to the timing of traffic lights, gather loop detector data or obtain a simple traffic count without going to each cabinet to download the information more efficient and cost effective than performing on-site visits.
